Carleton Cake Co. Ltd – Niche Tray bakes

The Promoters established their business in 1994 based at Market St., Cootehill, Co. Cavan. Due to expansion in the business they moved to the current location in 1999. The promoters have made considerable progress in establishing a regular customer base both north and south of the border. Northern sales now account for approx. 30% of all business through put. The family run company has two directors Mr. Wilfred Carleton and Mrs. Doreen Carleton.
Wilfred comes from a farming background and Doreen spent several years working as a playschool teacher. The promoters have equipped themselves well with necessary skills to further develop this business into a market leader in the north east. Turnover and profits are showing a promising upward trend.
The Project involves the expansion of existing bakery business with a clear focus on new product development involving the introduction of new lines of tray bakes, namely ‘Celebration Slices’, ‘Marbled Crunch’ and ‘Havana Cake Pak’.
Capital grant aid was provided by LEADER for the purchase of new equipment for the production of the new lines of product. The promoters sell their finished products through a number of distributors. The promoters expect to compete with their products on ‘ a point of difference’ i.e. home baked style as opposed to traditional factory produced tray bakes and biscuits. Support of this project has resulted in creation of 3 new jobs and the sustaining of 9 existing.
