Clonarn Clover – Free Range Eggs
Capital grant assistance under the LEADER Programme was provided Clonarn Clover Ltd. for conversion of old farm buildings for use in egg processing business, provision of security gates and fencing around facility, surfacing of yard and roofing of packaging storage area. All works carried out have enabled the role out of increased quality standards and security and also assisted sustainability of the existing business.
The existing family run business was set up in 1993 by Leo and Margaret Farrelly outside Mullagh, Co. Cavan The business gradually developed and in 1998 the company was formed. In 1993 output was 60 cases per week. By 2002 output has increased to over 250 cases per week. The Q mark was achieved in 1996 and in 1998 the ‘Brownstead’ brand was purchased to help cope with ever increasing business.
The Musgraves distibution chain accounts for 60% of sales, the remainder coming from other chain retail outlets and many smaller outlets. In 2001 a new egg store and grading area was constructed with a cost of over. No grant assistance has been provided by any agency during the development of the business until this stage.
