Solar panels
Grant assistance has been provided by LEADER for the establishment of a Solar panel assembly and manufacturing workshop and to supply and install solar panels to private and business customers primarily in the Cavan-Monaghan area. The solar panels include a photovoltaic cell for pumping the liquid and thus enabling 100% solar powered production of hot water.
The promoters are Gerard Dolan and Dave Gavin. The new company Gavin Solar has been established to run this business. Mr. Gavin has 25 years experience as a qualified plumber and has worked extensively both in Ireland and the UK as foreman on a number of sites. He is currently employed as plumber/fitter in Intel, Leixlip.
This new type of solar hot water heating has not previously been available in Ireland. The promoter intends to target private householders, businesses and community facilities, local authorities as potential customers of this product. The promoter has advertised the product in local papers in recent months to test the market demand for solar heating. Those interested varied from farmers to tradesmen and homeowners.
The product is currently available on the UK market and the promoter intends to import the constituent parts from the UK and finalise the manufacturing and assembly process here. There are currently no listed suppliers of solar panel supply in the Cavan-Monaghan area (source: Renewable energy centre – DKIT).
Some solar panels that are on the market have high impact installation and tend to be expensive, have chemical antifreezes and use electrically powered pumps. No planning is required as the panels resemble velux windows. The panels are chemical free and there are no mains electrical supplies required. For further information contact Dave Gavin on 049 8542174
