This is a guide for novice to intermediate web designers to aid in the general improvement and quality of their web pages. We will look at areas such as; meta tags, keywords, image size and resolution, Search Engine Optimisation and Google Ranking.

Learning objectives

By the end of this unit, you should be able to:

Update source code - meta data & keywords of your web pages
Improve how Google ranks your web page
Make your web page download quicker
Optimise your site with alternative text and image naming conventions
Help prevent spam in your mailbox

What You Will Need:

In order to carry out these tasks you will need the following tools:

An FTP Client: We will use ‘Leech FTP’ which is free software and you can download it from here
A text Editor (We will use ‘Notepad’)
Image Software: We will use ‘Irfanview’ which is free and you can download it from here
