Cavan Monaghan Rural Development Co-op Society (CMRD) recognises heritage preservation and promotion as an integral part of rural development. The Cavan Monaghan region has a broad range of heritage resources and active local heritage groups. The company has supported a heritage officer and heritage development programme since 1997. The programme to date has promoted heritage through awareness events, training, workshops, conferences

CMRD supports heritage development through two programmes

Heritage awareness programme

This supports the position of a heritage development officer and a programme of educational and awareness events. The programme focuses on using heritage as a means of promoting Peace and Reconciliation by fostering new and improved relations on a cross border and cross community basis

National Rural Development Programme (NRDP)

There are three measures in this programme where heritage related projects can seek financial support

1. Enhancement of Natural/ Built/Social/Cultural environment
2. Training
3. Analysis and Development
