Sliabh Beagh seminar highlights eBusiness opportunites

North South Tourism is Us Project

An E-business seminar coordinated by Cavan Monaghan Rural Development as part of the Community Tourism Network attracted a wide cross section of rural tourism enterprises from across the border counties to Sliabh Beagh Tourism Centre last week. The seminar focused on the development of effective E-business strategies and the development of better web linkages between all rural tourism providers in the border counties. Thrity-five businesses including bed & breakfasts, hotels, visitor attractions, handcrafts and local tourism agencies attended this seminar.

The Community Tourism Network is made up of Cavan Monaghan Rural Development, Arigna LEADER and Sperrins Tourism Ltd. and is committed to the development of rural tourism enterprises through networking and training. This seminar highlighted the excellent resources that are available to rural tourism providers through on-line booking facilities that are based in the region and are committed to the growth of tourism in the border counties. These included Mr. Emmett Traynor from www.bmw-hotels.com based in Kilinkere, Co Cavan and Ms. Alex Delimata from www.passport-breifne.com based in Dowra, Co Leitrim. Both of these speakers highlighted the e-business opportunities that can be capitalised upon through good practices in relation to web-site management.

The seminar also promoted an ‘Advanced E-business’ training programme which will be available to tourism providers in the autumn. Ms. Catriona Walsh from www.osd.ie who will be delivering this training spoke about the importance of maintaining an up-to-date web-site in order to achieve high web-search rankings.
